Is fast muscle gain good or bad? For the sake of this article (and website), we’ll assume that you’re completely natural (i.e., not using any PEDs or, in other words, performance-enhancing drugs). I’ll simplify things by listing the pros versus cons, and then you can decide whether developing your physique quickly, hypertrophy-wise, is right for you.
Advantages
You (almost immediately) begin to look & feel stronger
You command more respect (in workplace, school, and/or home settings)
You experience an improved mood
Posture is corrected
Aesthetic left-to-right symmetry and a balancing of muscle group weak points become inevitable
The above are naturally a given when it comes to muscle-building in general, but it’s important to point them out nonetheless.
Disadvantages
The disadvantages of fast muscle gain, while fewer, may be enough to at least question the amount of money, time, and/or effort being invested into this endeavor on your part. In other words, since it pertains to you, specifically, the decision-making process will obviously require a subjective outlook. Still, the drawbacks of getting big in a matter of days/weeks over, let’s say, months/years are very much objective. They are:
Stretch marks (not allowing enough time based on current elasticity for the skin to adapt/grow)
Potential injuries (including recurring/repeated minor injuries which can lead to more serious joint/health issues in the long-term)… the consequence of heavy and/or more intense lifting (i.e., weight training) in hopes of forcing results
It’s expensive; food/caloric intake increases substantially & consistently, not to mention the quality of your meals/supplements/nutraceuticals increasing as well (further driving up the price of your muscle-building diet/nutrition)
There are others, like having to change your entire wardrobe quite literally overnight, but the above-mentioned are what we’d consider notable as related to your choices moving forward (i.e., they might be deal-breakers).
Conclusion
So, what say you? Is fast muscle gain right for you? As stated above, it’s completely subjective. Keep in mind, also, that there are disadvantages to slow muscle gain, too. Therefore, take this article with a grain of salt, and choose your path wisely.
