My FC Supra Journey — Day 8, 9, 10, 11

So, I took some time off to heal. Soccer's a demanding sport, and I needed a break from training.

In truth, aside from a sore left ankle/hamstring, and a host of muscles that are in the process of adapting to pro-level athleticism, I spent a great deal of time with family. I wanted to.

A few days prior than the CPL (i.e., the Canadian Premier League) announcing FC Supra as the ninth team to join the esteemed soccer organization (for the upcoming/inaugural 2026 season, that is), my youngest celebrated her birthday. While we enjoyed an awesome weekend, admittedly, the upcoming tryouts were partially on my mind. They hadn’t been announced yet, but I knew they were coming.

I also, unofficially, began practicing at the park. I experienced a few minor yet notable injuries, and figured that more playing would be a helpful solution. Nope, not at my age… or at least not until my body adapts to strenuous activity.

This weekend (and a few days before that), though, I wanted to be fully present for my eldest’s birthday. As a dad (and player), it’s important to learn from your mistakes. I’ll make it up to the little one, but at least I realized quite early on what I’m doing wrong… because over-training has its negative effects.

When working through pain, you tend to be in a bad mood. That means less patience, and terrible decisions. So, from now on, or until I make the team, I’m resting when things are shaky, my schedule becomes too demanding, and/or my family needs me. And I’ll be a better man/player for it.
